Questions
How do I find a good dog breeder near me?
Start with the breed, then look at breeders in your state and the states next to it. Good breeders health test the parents, let you meet the mother, give you a written contract and will take the dog back. Every listing here shows which of these the breeder publishes.
What health tests should the parents have?
It depends on the breed. Each breed club publishes its recommended tests, and the OFA lists them at ofa.org. Ask the breeder for the parents’ registered names and look up the results yourself.
How much does a puppy from a breeder cost?
Each breeder sets its own price. Where a breeder publishes one, we show it on its listing. We never estimate prices.
Is it normal to join a waitlist?
Yes. Many breeders plan only a few litters a year and take deposits for a place on a waitlist. Ask how the deposit is refunded before you pay.
Do breeders pay to be listed?
No. Every listing is free. A paid Verified option, where we check the parent dogs’ health-test results with the public OFA database, is coming soon. It will never be a rating.
